Santorini
This is the last part of my guide to Greece. When I was in the country I visited the most famous of the islands, Santorini, the typical Greek dream. Thira is island’s the main town, and it’s the best place to buy jewelry, as it’s packed with one jewelry shop to another. In Santorini you can do a boat trip to the vulcano crater that originated the island. I wouldn’t say don’t miss it, because it’s a arid environment, nothing much attractive, but since you are there… Give it a go. To reach the old port, where the boats leave, you can take a cable car, or a donkey, I went down by cable car and back to the town by donkey, it’s super fun!

An more interesting trip is to the close town of Oia, know but it’s beautiful sun set, arrive early and pick a nice spot, otherwise you will just run around, as it gets so full you can barely find a place to sit and enjoy the view. Be aware the busses back to Thira don’t run so often, make sure to get the time table. Santorini has a red beach which is quite famous, my personal opinion is that it’s not that great, you can easily reach it by bus, but don’t get disappointed if you get out of the bus and see nothing “red”, the actual red beach is all the way at the end of the beach you were dropped off, and then up an indubitable red hill. There are a few nice restaurants at the beach the bus dropped people off, I had an delicious grilled fish with tatziki, I will never forget! I can remember the name of the restaurant, but I’m sure there all as good. Thira also has a great Prehistoric Museum, with an impressive collection, it’s worth it visiting.

Thira is very touristic, and it offers so much, my favorite spot wore: Tzamia-Krystalla Gallery, a great gallery with woderful paintings, sculptures and jewellery; Petra Art & Jewellery, you can see more about it here; Drakkar Boutique, a fashionable shop with many creative things, from designers from Greece all the way until Japan.;Haris Cotton Boutique, this shop sells only linen and cotton, and the price is good; McDaniel’s Snack bar, cheap and good food; Argo By Konstantin Restaurant, a typical Greek restaurant; Rastoni Café-Bar- Restaurant try the Santorini Salad. Because Thira is so small nothings has an actual address, just ask, everybody knows where things are.

After Santorini, my last stop was Rhodes, with you can reach by ferry – Blue Star Ferries. If you decide to get a cabin, it’s pretty o.k, and it’s just like a big cruise ship’s crew cabin , if you would like to know the feeling of traveling the seven seas as a crew member… Personally I did not enjoy Rhodes. It doesn’t have the island feeling, as it’s just a “city”. The only interesting thing is the medieval part of the city, known as Old Town. Rhodes was occupied by forces of the Knights Hospitaller, and under the rule of the newly named “Knights of Rhodes”, the town was rebuilt into a model of the European medieval ideal. Many of the town’s famous monuments, including the Palace of the Grand Master, which you can visit, but don’t expect a whole lot of it, were built during this period. You can stroll around the old town, get lost many times, obviously.

Rhodes is a great place to buy fur, and ask me why. If you are planning to buy something you should head to Diamant Furs, they have the best prices. A nice day trip from Rhodes is to go to Lindos, a small town about 1 hour ways from Rhodes town, you can reach by bus. Lindos is very touristic, and much of the medieval town has survived that it has been declared a national landmark. Lindo also has wonderful beaches, I would definetly recommend, and would even dare to say, why don’t you stay in Lindos instead of Rhodes Town, and just visit Rhodes as I day trip to get to know the Old Town. Lindos also has an very well preserved Acropolis, that has an amazing view to the St. Paul’s Bay, a natural harbour.

Rhodes was my last stop in Greece and from there I went back to Athens by airplaine, with Olympic Airlines. Of course this small guide does not substitutes a real “guide”, it just offers my perspectives of the places I visited. I went to Greece totally without destination, although I did read the Lonley Planet to figure out a bit of what I wanted to see, as it’s a difficult country to go from one place to the other it maybe handy to look for a travel agency, which was what I did, I recommend Ivis Travel, bear in mind that for the convenience you’re going to pay more, on the other hand everything is arranged for you.

Esta é a última parte do meu guia da Grécia. Quando estive no país também visitei a mais famosa das ilhas, Santorini, o sonho típico grego. Thira é a ilha é a cidade principal, e é o melhor lugar para comprar jóias, é cheio de joalherias, uma do lado da outra. Em Santorini que você pode fazer um passeio de barco até a cratera do vulcano que originou a ilha. Eu não diria que é um passei que deve ser feito, porque é um ambiente árido, nada muito atraente, mas se você estiver lá… Porque não? Para chegar no porto velho, de onde partem os barcos, você pode pegar um teleférico ou ir de burro, eu desci de teleférico, e voltei para o centro de burrico, foi muito divertido.
Uma viagem mais interessante é para o vilarejo próximo, Oia, famoso pelo seu pôr do sol. Tente chegar cedo e escolher um local agradável para apreciar a paisagem, caso contrário você vai apenas andar por aí, e como fica tão cheio voc6e mal consegue encontrar um lugar para sentar. Fique ciente dos ônibus de volta para Thira, que não tem horários com tanta freqüência. Santorini tem uma praia vermelha, que é bastante conhecida, a minha opinião pessoal é que não é grande coisa, você pode chegar lá facilmente de ônibus, mas fique não desapontado se você sair para fora do ônibus e não ver nada “vermelho”, praia vermelha fica no final da praia que você desembarcou, depois de uma colina sem dúvidas, vermelha! Há alguns restaurantes agradáveis na praia o ônibus larga os passageiros, eu comi um delicioso peixe grelhado com tatziki, que nunca vou esquecer! Não me lembro o nome do restaurante, mas eu tenho certeza que todos são tão bons quanto. Thira também tem um grande museu pré-histórico, com uma coleção impressionante, e vale a pena a visita.
Thira é muito turística e oferece muitas coisas, meus lugares favoritos: são Tzamia-Krystalla Gallery, uma galeria com pinturas, esculturas e jóias; Petra Art & Jóias, você pode saber mas sobre aqui; Boutique Drakkar, uma loja bacana com muitas coisas criativas, de estilistas da Grécia até o Japão; Boutique Cotton Haris, uma loja com roupas só de linho e algodão, com um preço camarada; Bar e Snack McDaniel, barato com uma comida boa. Argo Por Konstantin Restaurante, típico grego. Rastoni Café-Bar-Restaurante, não deixe de experimentar a salada de Santorini.
Porque Thira é muito pequeninha nada tem um “endereço”, pergunte, todo mundo sabe onde as coisas são.
Depois de Santorini, minha última parada foi Rhodes, com você pode chegar de barco – pela Blue Star Ferries. Se você decidir ficar em uma cabine, é muito bom, e é como uma cabine da tripulação de um grande cruzeiro, se você quiser saber a qual é sensação de viajar pelos sete mares como um marujo…
Pessoalmente eu não gostei muito de Rhodes. Não se tem a sensação de estar em uma ilha, é apenas uma cidade A única coisa interessante é a parte medieval, conhecida como Cidade Velha. Rhodes foi ocupada por forças dos Cavaleiros Hospitalários, e sob a regimento do recém-nomeado “Cavaleiros de Rhodes”, a cidade foi reconstruída em um modelo do europeu medieval. Muitos dos famosos monumentos da cidade, incluindo o Palácio do Grão-Mestre, o que você pode visitar, mas não espere muita coisa dele, foram construídos durante este período. Você pode passear pela cidade velha, e se perde muitas vezes, obviamente. Rhodes é um ótimo lugar para comprar peles, e me pergunte porquê. Se você está planejando comprar algo que você deve ir direto para Furs Diamant, eles têm os melhores preços.
A viagem de um dia muito agradável é ir para Lindos, uma pequena cidade a cerca de 1 hora, de Rodes, você pode chegar de ônibus. Lindos é muito turística, e grande parte da cidade medieval sobreviveu, e foi declarada monumento nacional. Lindos também tem praias maravilhosas, eu recomendaria definitivamente, e me atrevo a dizer, por que você não ficar em Lindos, em vez da cidade de Rodes? Basta visitar Rhodes como uma viagem de um dia para conhecer a Cidade Velha. Lindos também tem um Acrópole muito bem preservada, que tem uma vista maravilhosa para a Baía de St. Paul, um porto natural.
Rhodes foi a minha última parada na Grécia e de lá voltei para Atenas de avião, com Olympic Airlines. É claro que este pequeno guia não substitui um “guia” real, ele só oferece minhas perspectivas dos lugares que visitei. Fui para a Grécia totalmente sem destino, embora eu tenha lido o Lonely Planet para descobrir um pouco do que eu queria ver. Porque é um país difícil ir de um lugar para outro, talvez seja útil procurar por uma agência de viagens, que foi o que eu fiz, recomendo a Ivis Travel, tenha em mente que para essa a comodidade que você vai pagar mais, por outro lado, tudo é feito para você.
