The Fashion Colloquia is a gather made up of four fashion institutions, connected for the fact that they are located where the big Fashion Weeks’ across the globe happen. In synchrony with the Fashion weeks’ the first colloquia was held in London, last September, by the London College of Fashion. This February Domus Academy, in Milano, hosted the event, also as part of the institution’s 30th anniversary.
I had the opportunity to participate, and listen carefully to what the rich variety of contributions from a broad selection of people – from academia, media and practice had to say. The morning section was by far the most interesting one, in my opinion. With the theme “Time vs Creativity – Costraints or stimuli?” and “Fashion weeks and calendars, a system to be re-thought?” the round table was moderated by Barbara Trebitsch, Director of the Fashion Design Department at Domus Academy and Antonio Mancinelli, Senior editor Marie Claire Italy. The most fervent debate was regarding the Milanese Fashion week calendar. Rafaello Napoleone exposed his concern with the Italian fashion week saying that each Fashion week has its own identiy: “Italy represents the best of manufacturing, on the other hand it has a lack of international designers presenting here, the international platforms are Paris and London”.
It seems that while London and Paris are booming with new talents Milan is staying behind. Could this all be a matter of interest? While the French Fashion Chamber, Fédération Française de la Couture du Prêt-à-Porter des Couturiers and Créateurs de Mode, is a governmental institution, the Italian Fashion Chamber, Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, is a private company.
The new talents are pushed back to the last day of the Milano FW, when most people already left the city. Sara Maino was emphatic when expressing her opinion “Milan Fashion week is boring and it’s old”. An almost unanimous point of view: something has to change!
The next Fashion Colloquia is schedule to be held in Paris in September 2012 at the Institut de la Mode and finally New York, with Parsons, The New School of Design, in February 2013.

O Fashion Colloquia é conjunto de debates entre quatro instituições de moda, que estão ligadas ao fato de que estão localizadas onde as grandes semanas de moda mundial acontecem. Em sincronia com as semanas de moda o primeiro encontro foi realizada em Londres, em setembro passado, no London College of Fashion. Em fevereiro Domus Academy, em Milão, sediou o evento, também como parte do 30 º aniversário da instituição.
Eu tive a oportunidade de participar desse encontro, e escutar atentamente uma ampla seleção de pessoas – academicos, mídia e profissionais, tinham a dizer. A sessão da manhã foi de longe a mais interessante, na minha opinião. Com os temas “Criatividade vs Tempo- Constringe ou estímula?” e “Calendários da semanas de monda, um sistema para ser re-pensamento” a mesa redonda foi moderada por Barbara Trebitsch, Directora do Departamento de Design de Moda da Domus Academy e Mancinelli Antonio, editor sênior Marie Claire Itália. O debate mais fervoroso foi em relação ao calendário de semana de moda milanesa. Rafaello Napoleone expôs sua preocupação dizendo que cada Semana de Moda tem o sua identidade própria: “A Itália representa o melhor da produção, por outro lado tem uma falta de designers internacionais se apresentando aqui, as plataformas internacionais são Paris e Londres”.
Parece que enquando Londres e Paris estão crescendo com novos talentos Milão está ficando para trás. Poderia tudo isso ser uma questão de interesse? Enquanto a Câmara da Moda Francesa, Fédération Française de la Couture du Prêt-à-Porter des Couturiers and Créateurs de Mode, é uma instituição governamental, a Câmara de Moda Italiana, Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, é uma empresa privada.
Os novos talentos são empurradas para o último dia do FW Milano, quando a maioria das pessoas já deixaram a cidade. Sara Maino foi enfática ao expressar sua opinião “Milan Fashion Week é chato e é velho.” Um ponto de vista quase unânime: algo tem que mudar!
O próximo Fashion Colloquia está agendado para acontecer em Paris em setembro de 2012 no Institut de la Mode e depois em New York, na Parsons, The New School of Design, em fevereiro de 2013.

Eu estive por aí desde o último post (e faz tempo), organizando minha vida pessoal, trabalhando na Not The Same, ocupada com os festejos de final de ano, nesse meio tempo fazendo minha mudaça, e finalmente, organizando minha vida nova na Itália. Eu poderia ter começado o blogar há muito tempo, só que…. Eu estava com tanta preguiça.
